About Jeremy

Jeremy Norton is a cabinetmaker with 20yrs experience of designing and making furniture. He learnt this trade in London apprenticing under Gilbert Biggs, during Gilbert’s later working years as a supremely talented master cabinetmaker.

This apprenticeship followed a change Jeremy made in his early 30s, swapping life as a research scientist to chase a future as a furniture maker and a career that was a better fit with family life.

After time spent working under Gilbert, Jeremy set up business in London as an independent designer-maker. He then worked as a senior cabinetmaker at Tim Moss Kitchens & Furniture Ltd, a highly respected London firm specialising in unique kitchens and bespoke cabinetry.

Since 2012 Jeremy has been living in West Dorset and operating independently from a workshop in Bridport, arguably one of Dorset’s most charming, diverse and bustling towns. Bridport is just a mile and a bit from the sea and the impressive Jurassic coastline of Lyme Bay.

Jeremy has two grown up children and enjoys living in Hardy’s country and spending time as much time as he can walking the cliff paths along the Jurassic coast.

Traditional Skills

Whatever I’m making, the aim is always to create beautiful furniture that will last. Most of my work is from an established client-base in London and Dorset.

I’m inspired by the clean lines, elegant proportions and emphasis on craftsmanship of the Arts & Crafts and Shaker movements. I offer a modern take on these appealing designs.

True To Tradition

A fully equipped workshop is a modern essential but I also aim to incorporate traditional skills and methods into all of my pieces. Furniture is my passion, I love what I do, sometimes handcrafting is the only way to combine the contemporary with the timeless.
